A mom and daughter received an outpouring of support after they missed a school closing ceremony because they were busy selling vegetables.
Recently, Delia Buaya, a Facebook user, shared photos of a grade 1 pupil, “Vivilyn,” and her mother arriving at Lilingayon Central School in Valencia City, Bukidnon, carrying a basin filled with vegetables.
The mother and daughter arrived at the school after the closing program had already ended. They had been selling vegetables because they couldn’t afford the costume needed for Vivilyn’s dance performance.
Despite their efforts, they missed the opportunity to receive Vivilyn’s medal during the ceremony. The story quickly spread like wildfire on social media and earned sympathy from netizens.
Many netizens were moved by their dedication and reached out to ask for the family’s GCash number to send help. The donation reached P13, 000, which Teacher Delia promptly relayed to Vivilyn, her mother, and even her father, who works as a laborer in the fields.
The family was overwhelmed with joy and gratitude. “Napakasaya at ‘salamat’ ang lagi nilang sinasabi. Kundi daw dahil sa aking post, hindi raw sila natulungan,” Teacher Delia said.
“So grateful kaayo sa Panginoon na ginamit niya ako para matulungan sila,” she added.
Teacher Delia accompanied the family to a grocery store where they bought rice, household items, and clothes for Vivilyn after giving the donations. They also enjoyed a visit to a mall and a meal out, which was a rare treat for the hardworking family.
Teacher Delia expressed her happiness not just for the material help received by the family, but also for the joy and relief it brought them. She described Vivilyn as a quiet, obedient, polite, and well-behaved student who gets along well with her classmates.
