PAGASA Says Habagat to Affect PH Weather Condition

PAGASA LATEST UPDATE – The state weather bureau reported that habagat will bring rains over some parts of the country.

On Thursday (May 30, 2024), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. The southwest monsoon will affect the country’s weather conditions.

PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina reported that habagat will affect the western section of Luzon. Overcast skies and rain are expected to prevail in several parts of Luzon.

The southwest monsoon will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Ilocos Region, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan.

“Malaki ang tiyansa ng maulap na kalangitan na may mga kalat kalat na pag-ulan, pag-kidlat, pag-kulog partikular na dito sa may bahagi ng Ilocos Region, Bataan, Zambales, Occidental Mindoro [at Palawan] dulot ng habagat,” said Badrina.

A frontal system will bring similar weather conditions over Batanes and Babuyan Islands. Possible flash floods or landslides are expected in these areas due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

Habagat will also bring partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.

However, hot and humid weather condition with chances of isolated rain and thunderstorms is still expected over the rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila.

PAGASA reported that no low-pressure areas or tropical cyclones are currently being monitored within and outside the Philippine area of responsibility.

On Wednesday (May 29, 2024), the weather agency declared the start of the rainy season due to the incessant rains experienced over the western sections of Luzon and Visayas in the past few days.

Badrina reported that one to two cyclones are expected to enter PAR for the month of June. “Pagdating ng Hunyo isa o dalawang bagyo ang inaasahan nating papasok o mabubuo sa loob ng PAR,” Badrina added.
