Antique Farmer Discovers Giant Singkamas

GIANT TURNIP – A farmer who discovered a giant turnip in a small town in Antique elicits comments online.

The turnip is a root vegetable commonly grown in temperate climates around the world for its white, bulbous taproot. It is a member of the Brassicaceae family, which also includes vegetables like cabbage, broccoli, and kale.

The town of Laua-an in Antique is known for being the top producer of jicama or turnip. The town has a dedicated group of farmers who cultivate this nutritious vegetable.

The Singkamas Vendors Association in Laua-an has 32 members, and their stalls are located along the national highway in Barangay Guisijan.
