Netizen Finds Ibong Adarna in Antique
A rare bird called Ibong Adarna was reportedly spotted by a netizens in a forest on Semirara Island, Antique.
“Ibong Adarna” is a Filipino epic poem that is part of the country’s literary heritage. It was written during the Spanish colonial period by an unknown author. The story revolves around the journey of three princes, Don Pedro, Don Diego, and Don Juan, as they set out to capture the elusive bird to cure their father, the king, who falls ill.
According to the story, anyone who hears its song will fall into a deep sleep, and if its droppings fall on a person, they will turn into stone. It is also believed that the bird’s song can heal the sick.
The legendary bird sings seven times, and each time, it changes the color of its feathers.
Recently, Noynoy Filaro, a Facebook user, shared video of a colorful bird resembling the legendary bird called ‘Ibong Adarna’. The video immediately spread like wildfire on social media and garnered reactions from the netizens.
According to Noynoy, he was amazed by the sight of the bird, which reminded him of the mythical creature from the story “Ibong Adarna” that he used to read about in books during his first year of high school.
Ibong Adarna, which he used to only read about in books, he now saw in person. The actual bird is called the “Golden Pheasant” and is commonly found in some mountainous parts of Western China and even in the Philippines.
The Golden Pheasant species can be found in Western China, parts of Western Europe, North America, South America, the Falkland Islands, Australia, and New Zealand but it is rare to spot this bird in the Philippines.
