Elderly Woman Lost Her Life After Being Struck by E-Bike

On Monday (April 1, 2024), a 73-year-old woman named Luzviminda Bisarez was simply crossing the street when the accident happened, leaving her fatally injured. The driver of the e-bike, a 31-year-old individual, was quickly arrested by the police following the incident.

However, the driver allegedly did not promptly take the victim to the hospital for medical attention, according to relatives.

Lucy Bisarez, the victim’s daughter, tearfully recounted the heartbreaking incident. She arrived at the hospital before her mother, witnessing her in critical condition. Lucy described her mother as struggling to breathe. It was only later that they realized she had been in an accident.

“Mas nauna pa ko kay nanay dumating sa hospital. Nakita ko si nanay talagang lugmok na siya. Malamig pero ‘yung hininga niya, agaw-hininga siya tapos lumuluha. So hindi ko alam na naaksidente siya hanggang sa dumating ang mga pulis,” Bisarez said.

Neighbors claimed that the victim was left near their vicinity, and first aid was administered by locals. Only afterward was she taken to their house, where Lucy’s brother-in-law found her lying injured.

Lucy Bisarez expressed her disappointment, stating that if only the driver had acted immediately and called for emergency assistance, her mother might have had a chance. She emphasized the importance of taking accident victims to the hospital immediately.

The family is seeking justice and hopes that the driver will not be released from custody.

However, the driver’s mother denied allegations that her son neglected the victim but admitted that he didn’t mention the accident to her on the day it happened. She expressed regret and asked for forgiveness from the victim’s family.

She also expressed concern about raising bail money, especially since their e-bike, used for livelihood, was impounded.

The Traffic Investigation Unit of the Marikina Police Station conducted an investigation and concluded that the rider failed to notice the victim crossing the street.

The e-bike driver is facing charges of Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Homicide.
