Guilty Scammer in Pangasinan Returns Money to Victims
PANGASINAN – A cash-in scheme scammer returned the money to the victim after feeling guilty for committing an illegal act.
A scam refers to a fraudulent scheme or deceptive practice designed to trick individuals into giving away money, personal information, or valuable assets under false pretenses. Scams can take various forms, including online phishing, pyramid schemes, fake investment opportunities, lottery scams, and love scams, among others.
The report about the cash-in scam in Barangay Nalsian Norte, Malasiqui, Pangasinan, is circulating online, raising concerns among business owners and small entrepreneurs regarding the scheme.
Two days later, the suspect reached out to the scam victims, who were business owners, and apologized for their actions. The scammer returned the stolen cash, amounting to P35,000.
“Humihingi siya ng pasensiya noong tumawag siya, sabi ko bakit niya nagawa ‘iyon? Sabi niya, nagipit lang siya,” the victim said.
Reports suggest that the suspect, facing financial problems, resorted to the scam but later regretted their actions. The scammer also returned the stolen money to another victim in Alcala.
The victims have begun taking precautionary measures with their online financial transactions after the incident left them traumatized.
“Mas maingat [na ngayon], dati naman talaga payment first ang policy namin. Noong oras na iyon at ‘yung customer na ‘yun, biglang nabago ang patakaran. Dahil mayaman siya, nagtiwala ‘yung kasama ko,” a victim said.
Despite the wrongdoing, the victims decided not to file charges against the suspect, showing a level of forgiveness and understanding. However, the local police issued a reminder to the public regarding the incident.
In a previous incident, a fake lawyer in Pasay city arrested for scamming victim of over p500k
Pangasinan Police Provincial Office Public Information Officer PCPT. Renan Dela Cruz urges everyone not to readily trust online transactions since many have fallen victim to scams in the province.
“Sa ating lalawigan, hindi lingid sa kaalaman sa ating kababayan na may na-scam. So, ang paalala namin huwag maniwala agad sa online,” Dela Cruz said.
