On Wednesday morning (February 29, 2024), Members of the City Mobile Force Company (CMFC) of the Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) apprehended a woman who pretended to be a police officer.

The incident happened at a police checkpoint near Zuelig Barangay Subangdaku in Mandaue City. The woman detained by the police was identified as Merlin Plandes Beard, residing in BSP Camp Upper Banica, Barangay Lahug, Cebu City.

The police officers conducting the checkpoint in the area flagged down Merlin after she was seen wearing a police uniform while riding her motorcycle. When she was asked for identification and failed to present a valid one during the apprehension.

Beard is facing charges of Illegal use of Insignia under Article 179 of the Revised Penal Code (RPC). The police described the arrest as a stern warning because the use of police uniforms is strictly prohibited under the law, and it constitutes a serious offense.
