Recently, Babs P Delluxe, a Facebook user, shared a heartwarming story of compassion displayed by customers at a local coffee shop. The post quickly went viral and garnered various reactions from netizens.
In the post, Delluxe recounted a scene at a quaint coffee shop where two customers approached the counter and ordered five coffees. Surprisingly, they only took two for themselves while requesting the remaining three to be “hanging.”
Intrigued, Delluxe inquired about the meaning of “hanging coffees.” The waiter explained that “hanging coffees” are prepaid drinks meant for those less fortunate who cannot afford a warm drink.
As more customers arrived, the act of generosity continued. Two girls purchased their coffees and left, while the next order, three women ordered seven coffees, with four designated as “hanging.”
After a few moments, a man dressed in worn clothes, possibly homeless, approached the counter and asked if there were any “hanging coffees” available. Without hesitation, the staff served him a warm cup.
Babs realized that hanging coffees are meant for less fortunate individuals who can’t afford to buy food. Kind-hearted customers can also order sandwiches or a full low-cost meal for homeless people.
On the wall, there are two notes with words written: “If you are hungry and have no money, these meals have been paid for in advance, give a server the ticker and they will have the kitchen prepare your meal.”
This beautiful tradition, originating in Naples, has spread across cities and towns worldwide, touching lives and spreading kindness wherever it goes.
