Nancy Binay Addresses Concerns Over Mariel Padilla’s Glutathione Drip Controversy

Here’s Nancy Binay Response to Mariel Padilla’s Glutathione Drip Controversy in the Senate

NANCY BINAY – Here is Senator Nancy Binay’s response to Mariel Padilla’s glutathione drip controversy in the Senate.

Mariel Padilla has attracted attention for a viral photo showing her receiving a glutathione drip. The fact that she proudly shared the experience while at her husband Senator Robin Padilla’s office drew criticism from numerous online users.

The former Big Brother host defended her decision to undergo glutathione drips, citing their purported health benefits. Nevertheless, the public disapproved of her choice to receive the treatment in a Senate setting and then publicize it on social media.

Senator Robin Padilla dismissed the controversy, finding it laughable. He brushed off the criticisms, stating, “Kung may nakita po silang masama sa larawan na ‘yan, paumanhin po.”

Mariel appears unfazed by the backlash her photos received, as evidenced by her recent Instagram stories. She took advantage of the situation’s traction to promote her live selling on a social media platform.

Based on a report from Inquirer, Senator Nancy Binay expressed her views on Friday regarding Mariel’s use of her husband’s office for a glutathione drip session, raising concerns about the Senate’s image and health and safety issues.

Mariel Padilla Issue

Nancy Binay noted that while Mariel Padilla is not a member of the Senate, the Senate’s ethics committee may not have direct jurisdiction over the matter. Nonetheless, she stressed that they would still “closely look into it.”

“I’m not sure if the ethics committee can extend its jurisdiction dito sa nangyaring insidente since hindi naman member ng Senado si Ms. Mariel. But we also need to closely look into it because it involves issues of conduct, integrity, and reputation of the Institution, and matters that concern health and safety,” said Binay.

Furthermore, Binay raised alarm about the treatment, highlighting that the Department of Health (DOH) has issued warnings about the intravenous (IV) procedure. Health Secretary Ted Herbosa cautioned against the improper administration of the procedure, which could result in harm to internal organs. The glutathione drip is sought after by individuals aiming for a fairer skin tone, alongside claimed therapeutic advantages.

“[A]nd to make it more complicated, ‘yung gluta drip ay ni-declare na mismo ng DOH na unsafe, banned ng FDA […],” she added.

Binay stressed the importance for public figures to be careful when endorsing products, especially those that could potentially be harmful.

“As public figures, sana aware din tayo sa responsabilidad natin sa publiko. We might be promoting something na ipinagbabawal at iligal, at akala ng mga tao eh okay lang. Isipin din natin may kasamang kapanagutan ang pagiging artista, lalo na kung senador ang asawa mo,” the politician concluded.
