Church in Pasay City Accepts Plastic Bottles In Exchanged for Rice, Noodles, and Sardines
A project launched in Pasay City is not only helping the environment but also those in need by accepting plastic bottles in exchange of foods.
Waste management is the systematic collection, disposal, recycling, and treatment of waste products produced by human activities. It is an important part of environmental protection and public health.
Effective waste management strategies work to reduce waste’s negative impact on the environment and human health while increasing resource recovery and encouraging sustainable resource consumption.

Recently, Pasay City launched a project to help the environment and the residents in the area. Our Lady of Sorrow Church initiated the project, allowing people to exchange 10 plastic bottles for rice, sardines, and instant noodles. Even under the scorching sun, people patiently lined up because they believed that the food assistance would significantly reduce their expenses.
Aside from the food aid, snacks were also provided for those waiting in line. The recipients expressed deep gratitude for the assistance they received.
“Mabuti naman at nagkaroon ng biyaya rito. Malaking tulong din ito para sa mga apo ko,” said Remedios Gabanta, one of the beneficiaries who waited in line for the aid.
Up to ten thousand residents from neighboring barangays of the parish were given assistance. The Filipino-Chinese community partnered with the church for this annual project, which they consider part of their Chinese New Year celebration.
Our Lady of Sorrows Parish Church Foundation OIC Leonor Mendoza-Loor also explained that the purpose behind the project is to help residents appreciate the value of waste and how they should segregate it.
“Para ma-value nila ‘yung kahalagahan ng mga basura, paano nila ‘yan ise-segrate,” Loor said.
The collected plastic bottles will be used for various projects in the future.
