REQUIREMENTS TO RENEW DRIVER’S LICENSE 2024 – Here are the documents that the Land Transportation Office (LTO) requires for the renewal.

A huge part of the Filipino populace in the Philippines is composed of drivers and vehicle owners. Thus, thousands, if not millions, of Filipinos also avail the services provided by the Land Transportation Office or more popularly called LTO.

The Land Transportation Office is the government body that issues a driver’s license to individuals who applied for it and has passed the driving exam, the written exam, and is in a good shape to drive. Applicants are also now required to take a driving lesson at an LTO-accredited driving school.

A person must have a Driver’s License in operating a vehicle on the road. Also, the vehicle type must match what the specific Driver’s License allows for operation. Those who will be caught driving without a license will be subject to the LTO fees.

Driving with an expired Driver’s License also has a corresponding penalty set by the Land Transportation Office. The Driver’s License come with validities which may vary and the cardholders must renew it on or before the expiry. You need to prepare and submit the requirements to renew a Driver’s License.

The Driver’s License renewal is open for individuals with an expired non-professional or professional LTO driver’s license or a conductor’s license but the expiry is not more than two (2) years ago. A cardholder who is leaving the Philippines soon and a holder of a non-professional, professional, or conductor’s license that is due for renewal within a year may also process.

With regards to the requirements to renew a Driver’s License, it depends if the Driver’s License to be renewed is expired for more than two (2) years or not.

If the Driver’s License’s latest expiry is not later than two (2) years ago, here are the documents that must be submitted to LTO for the renewal process:

  • duly-accomplished application form
  • original driver’s license
  • original and photocopy of government-issued ID that bearing your photo and signature
  • copy of the medical examination certificate (only electronically transmitted to the LTO by an accredited clinic)
  • Passed Comprehensive Driver’s Education (CDE) Certificate

In case the latest expiry of the Driver’s License to be renewed is more than two (2) years ago, here are the requirements to renew a Driver’s License at the LTO:

  • duly-accomplished application form
  • photocopy of passport covering the following areas: first page, visa page, and departure in the Philippines and latest arrival overseas
  • within 30 days of arrival of the license holder, he/she must submit the following documents at the LTO branch where the renewal was processed:
    • photocopy of passport (first and arrival pages)
    • copy of the medical examination certificate (only electronically transmitted to the LTO by an accredited clinic)
    • original manual Official Receipt (OR)

If the owner of the Driver’s License is an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who is still in other country at the time of the renewal, here are the documents that must be submitted to the LTO upon arrival:

  • duly-accomplished application form
  • criginal expired driver’s/conductor’s license
  • copy of the medical examination certificate (only electronically transmitted to the LTO by an accredited clinic)
