February 9 Holiday: Malacañang Declares It’s Special Non-working Day

What to know about the February 9 holiday as per the declaration from Malacañang.

FEBRUARY 9 HOLIDAY – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Friday declared that this day is a special non-working day.

In light of the upcoming Chinese New Year, also known as the beginning of a new year on the traditional lunar Chinese calendar, Malacañang issued a declaration in connection to this event.

President Bongbong Marcos and Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin signed the declaration on January 18, Proclamation No. 453.

The proclamation official declared that February 9, 2024 is a special non-working day. Based on the statement, it acknowledges the significance of this celebration. It will allow the people to celebrate the Chinese New Year and, at the same time, make use of the benefits of the longer weekend.

Dated October 11, 2023, February 10, 2024 was also declared a special non-working day throughout the country.

With this declaration, employers must heed to the holiday pay rules of the country. For the special non-working day, the “no work, no pay” principle shall apply and the employee will be paid an additional 30 percent of his/her basic wage.
