There is a huge benefit in maintaining an active account to the Social Security System. The updated membership can pave the way for options during financially-challenging situations. One of which is when an unwanted incident or cause leading to disability occurs.
When an unwanted incident or cause that resulted in disability takes place, a member of the Social Security System who has posted at least one (1) monthly SSS contribution prior to the semester when the disability occured may qualify to the SSS Disability Benefit offer of the state-run social insurance agency.
Through the Disability Benefit offer, the SSS aims to help the member who loses a source of income due to being prevented by his/her disability to work. Under it, members who have posted at least 36 monthly contributions may qualify to the SSS Disability Benefit pension.
How much a member may get under the SSS Disability Benefit pension? According to the Social Security System, in case the member has less than 10 credited years of service, he/she may get at least Php 1,000 per month.
In the case of members with at least 10 Credited Years of Service but not more tha 20 CYS, he/she may get at least Php 1,200 per month. The SSS Disability Benefit pension for members who have posted 20 CYS and more will not go below Php 2,400 per month.
According to the state-run social insurance institution, aside from the Disability Benefit pension, a supplemental allowance of Php 500.00 monthly is also granted to the member. The entity also provides an additional benefit of Php 1,150.
The pension will be extended by the SSS to the member up to a certain number of months depending on the extent of the disability. In the case of totally and permanently-disabled members, the state-run social insurance agency grants a lifetime pension.
In case the member’s approved pension duration goes below 12 months, he/she will be given the SSS Disability Benefit Lump Sum instead. The pension will stop once the member returns to work. There are requirements in filing for SSS Disability Benefit claim.
