Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Davao Occidental, January 12, 2024

EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.8 magnitude quake in Davao Occidental today, Friday, January 12, 2024.

Following the 5.1 magnitude earthquake in Surigao del Sur a few days ago, another significant quake was recently recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in another province. According to the agency, the quake that hit Davao Occidental today had a magnitude of 4.8.

Earthquake Today

The earthquake today that struck Davao Occidental, Friday, January 12, 2023, at 10:05 a.m., was tectonic in origin.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Davao Occidental was located at 04.81°North, 126.25°East – 113 km South 50° East of Sarangani Island in the Municipality of Sarangani. It had a depth of focus of 017 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. According to the quake-recording agency, no intensity was felt at the epicenter of the natural calamity as well as the nearby areas. No instrumental intensity was recorded by the bureau as well.
