PAGASA – The state weather bureau released the list of Philippine Tropical Cyclone Names that may enter PAR in 2024.
The Philippines, a tropical archipelago located in the Pacific Ocean, is no stranger to the devastating force of typhoons. The country endures a yearly battle against the impact of typhoons, causing destructions and posing challenges for Filipinos.
The Philippines experiences a typhoon season that typically runs from June to November, with aggressive activity often occurring between August and October. During this period, the country faces the threat of multiple typhoons making landfall, bringing heavy rains, strong winds, and storm surges that result in severe flooding, landslides, and infrastructure damage.
Recently, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has released the names for the typhoons that may enter the country in 2024. This list is part of the agency’s annual set of names, which can be found on their website.
PAGASA also prepares an auxiliary list with extra names in case more than 25 typhoons hit the country in a single year. The names set for 2024 will not only be used this year but also in 2028, 2032, 2036, and so on.
Each set includes 25 names, and there are 10 additional names on the auxiliary list in case the number of tropical cyclones exceeds 25.
