A convenience store owner goes viral and earns praise from netizens after she successfully foiled a suspect’s Gcash scam.
Yvonne Bautista, a Facebook user, shared a video footage of herself who successfully thwarted a scammer’s attempt to deceive three of her neighbors. The video elicited various reactions from the internet users.
The entire conversation between Yvonne and the scammer was captured on video. The footage shows the store owner who skillfully handled the situation and protected her neighbors from falling victim to the scam.
The quick-thinking store owner stood her ground when the scammer tried to trick her into giving away P10,000.
In the video, the suspect, identified as Rodrigo JD, requested P10,000 via Gcash, with the owner initially charging a P200 fee for the entire transaction. The scammer urged the store owner to send the cash via a digital wallet first before making the payment.
However, Bautista insisted on receiving payment first before sending the cash. His plan to steal P10,000 was met with firm resistance from the vigilant store owner. Her refusal to be fooled shows an admirable level of awareness in the face of deceptive tactics.
According to Bautista, this incident marked the third time a scammer had tried to deceive her.
“Parang kaboses niya yung una na encounter ko na hindi ko nga lang siya na video. Sabi niya lumayo daw siya sa akin, kasi siyempre maiimpluwensiyahan ko siya eh,” she said.
