A lot are fond of lucky charms and rituals and among them commonly practiced is making a prosperity bowl for the new year. This has become a fixture in a modern Filipino media noche, or New Year’s celebration.
This often comes with a display of 12 lucky fruits on the dining table.
Feng shui consultant Johnson Chua said that should be displayed on New Year’s Eve and removed as soon as possible before January 2. This practice is a part of the Chinese tradition for the Chinese New Year. This also has other names like Wealth Bowl or Money Bowl.
The bowl is filled with items and ingredients with symbolic meanings and representations of wealth, abundance, and good fortune. This is believed to attract financial prosperity and blessings for the upcoming new year.
Coins and currency, gemstones, aromatic herbs, decorative items, and red envelopes are all part of this and these are what they mean.

- Gemstones like citrine, pyrite, and green aventurine for to attract financial luck
- Herbs for positive energy and financial blessings like basil, bay leaves, and cinnamon
- Red Envelopes is a nod for financial blessings and well-wishes
Other items are:
- A ceramic or crystal bowl. The strong and durable material signifies the foundation of your intentions. Avoid using plastic bowls.
- Uncooked white rice means abundance and wealth.
- 12 eggs for completeness and fullness. You may use hard-boiled eggs or raw ones.
