Meet Rod Condes, a determined 2nd-year college student at Carlos Hilado Memorial State University (CHMSCU) in Talisay City. Rod, a native of Silay City, Negros Occidental, is taking on the role of a breadwinner for his family by selling bananas and flowers every day to support his education.
Rod’s family faced early challenges when his father passed away. Determined to contribute to the family income, he took it upon himself to sell goods with the help of his mother. Despite the hardships, Rod becomes a breadwinner for his family.
For the young man, the desire to complete his education and support his family is a driving force. Juggling his studies and the daily task of selling bananas is not easy, but he faces the challenge head-on to make ends meet and contribute financially to his family.
The college student acknowledges the difficulties of his situation, but he remains resilient, continuously attending classes and selling fruits at the market in Silay during class breaks. He believes that poverty should not be a reason to give up on one’s dreams.
“Indi ko mag- untat samtang makaya ko pa padayunon ko ang akon pagtuon para malab-ot ko ang akon handom kag mabuligan ko akon pamilya. Indi rason ang kapigaduhon sa tawo nga may handom,” Condes said.

Despite the financial constraints and the challenges he faces, Rod remains steadfast in his commitment to education and family.
