PAGASA Raises Signal No. 2 in 6 Areas Due to Tropical Storm Kabayan

Releases Latest Weather Update for Monday (December 18, 2023)

PAGASA LATEST UPDATE – The state weather bureau reported that Tropical Storm Kabayan will bring rains over parts of the country.

On Monday (December 18, 2023), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. Tropical Storm Kabayan will affect the country’s weather condition.

PAGASA reported that Tropical Storm Kabayan was last spotted 275 kilometers east of Davao City with a speed of 15 kilometers per hour. It is moving west-northwestward of the Philippine Sea.

Kabayan has maximum sustained winds of 65 kph and gustiness of up to 80 kph. The storm is expected to make landfall along the coast of Davao Oriental or southern Surigao del Sur this morning.

The weather agency has raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) in various areas due to the effects of the tropical storms.

“Due to frictional effects associated with landfall, KABAYAN is forecast to be downgraded into a tropical depression, and the possibility of being further downgraded into a low pressure area while over land or after emerging over the sea is not ruled out (although in such a case, re-development may still occur over the Sulu Sea),” PAGASA said.

The weather bureau advised the residents in the affected areas to take precautionary measures for possible flooding and rain-induced landslides.

Meanwhile, the coastal water condition over the western seaboards of central and southern Luzon, the western and northern seaboards of Mindanao, and the remaining seaboard of Visayas will be moderate to rough, according to PAGASA.

Gale warning was raised along the seaboard of northern Luzon, the eastern and central seaboards of Visayas, and the eastern seaboards of central Luzon, southern Luzon, and Mindanao.
