Nail-Throwing Incident Targets Non-Participating Jeepneys in Taguig City

TAGUIG CITY – A nail-throwing incident targets the jeepneys that allegedly did not participate in the transport strike.

Several jeepneys, both traditional and modern, were targeted by two individuals who resorted to throwing nails at passing vehicles that allegedly did not participate in the transport strike in Taguig City.

The incident, captured on CCTV, happened in Barangay Hagonoy and has raised concerns about the safety of drivers and passengers. The suspects targeted not only the traditional jeepneys but also the more modern ones.

Nail-Throwing Incident

A cooperative in the area filed a complaint with the Taguig City Police Station after over ten of their units suffered tire damage.

According to PCol. Robert Baesa, the head of Taguig CPS, the suspects used an improvised method involving cardboard and strategically placed nails. As vehicles passed over the makeshift contraption, the nails would puncture the tires, causing damage.

“Improvised siya na parang merong cardboard na ‘pag nadaanan, tatayo talaga ‘yung pako para talagang tumusok sa mga gulong. So talagang masisira ‘yung mga gulong,” Baesa said.

This not only posed a threat to road safety but also resulted in inconvenience for both drivers and passengers.

The cooperative liaison officer, Charrize San Jose, expressed the difficulties caused by the incident. She emphasizes the financial burden of replacing tires, which can cost around P90,000, not to mention the additional expenses incurred due to disrupted trips.

“Syempre nahihirapan ‘yung driver, ‘yung pasahero pa na nakasakay sa loob diba? Na pupunta sila sa trabaho nila or uuwi sila, bumaba sila. Kasi kelangan palitan ‘yung gulong. Hindi naman tatakbo ng flat ‘yun e, delikado,” San Jose said.
