TVJ Trademark Win On “Eat Bulaga”, Stresses “Respect” Amid Issues

After TVJ trademark victory, the hosts stressed respect in the ruling.

TVJ TRADEMARK – TVJ Production’s Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon wins and stresses respect for the decision.

Television and Production Exponents Inc. (TAPE) loses to TVJ Production’s Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon in terms of the Eat Bulaga trademark dispute. A decision has been made and the ruling favored TVJ and TAPE ‘did not contradict’ de Leon’s statement about how this was coined.

The Eat Bulaga trademark dispute started when TVJ left the show in May.

In line with this, the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) canceled the EB trademark registration of TAPE. The production company has failed to provide context on how they were able to come up with the name.

After the decision has been publicised, Paolo Contis reacted to the ruling from the IPOPHL and expressed that everything is not legally final yet. Contis became one of the hosts of TAPE’s EB when TVJ left and when the show faced a major overhaul.

Simple lang ang gusto kong sabihin para sa ating mga Kapuso. Mga Kapuso, mahaba pa po ang laban. Ibig sabihin, legally, wala pang final. Okay?” he said. This also matches with the TAPE’s decision to appeal after a decision has been issued.

Amid all these issues, TVJ talked exchanged thoughts in their show E.A.T on TV5 and highlighted that with the recent happenings, respect must be practiced more than anything else.

“Mayroong pinakaimportanteng salita ngayon, respeto. Ayan pinakamabigat,” de Leon said during their press conference on Wednesday, December 6. Sotto added to this and the former senate president added, “’Pag magpakita sila ng respeto, itigil (ang) paggamit ng hindi sa kanila, mas masaya.”

The latter reiterated that the “exclusive right to register” and all variation of the trademark now belongs to them.

Despite the press release about TAPE making an appeal, TVJ is firm and “standing on solid ground”. They believe anyone has the right to appeal but stresses respect for the decision.
