Class Suspensions for Thursday (November 23, 2023) Due to Transport Strike, Bad Weather & Earthquake

WALANG PASOK – Various local government units have declared class suspensions in several areas due to the effects of earthquakes, bad weather, and a transport strike.

In the previous days, the shear line and the northeast monsoon were sweeping across the country, bringing strong winds and heavy rains. The inclement weather conditions triggered flooding and landslides in several areas.

The shear line will be affecting Southern Luzon while the northeast monsoon (amihan) will continue to affect the rest of Luzon. The shear line will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Palawan, Quezon, and the Bicol Region.

Class Suspensions

Last week, a magnitude 7.2 earthquake jolts Davao Occidental. The quake’s epicenter was located 05.37°North, 125.15°East- 030 kilometers South 81° West of Sarangani, Davao Occidental.

Various intensities were felt in some areas of Mindanao, with Intensity VIII considered “very destructive,” according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.

PISTON conducted a three-day nationwide transport strike from November 20 to November 23, 2023, expressing their opposition to the PUV Modernization Program.

On Thursday, November 23, 2023, several areas across the Philippines experienced the suspension of classes due to a combination of unfavorable weather conditions, a transport strike, and seismic activity.

The cancellation of classes has been made to ensure the safety and well-being of students and educators.

  • Northern Samar – suspension of classes, all levels, public and private
  • General Santos City, South Cotabato – suspension of classes, all levels, public and private (until Nov. 24, 2023)
  • Sarangani – all levels, public and private (up to Nov. 24, 2023)
  • Bulacan
  • Calumpit – suspension of face-to-face classes (online or modular instead)
  • Malolos City – suspension of face-to-face classes, online or modular instead (up to Nov. 24, 2023)
