Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Samar, November 20, 2023
EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 5.6 magnitude quake in Samar today, Monday, November 20, 2023.
Following the 4.7 magnitude earthquake that hit Sarangani yesterday, another significant quake was recently recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in another province. According to the agency, the quake hit Samar today. It had a magnitude of 5.6.
The earthquake today that struck Samar, Monday, November 20, 2023, at 12:57 p.m., was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Calbiga. It followed low-magnitude quakes that jolte ddifferent parts of the country today including Surigao del Sur, Davao Occidental, and Leyte.
According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Samar was located at 11.54°North, 125.14°East – 016 km South 55° East of Calbiga. It had a depth of focus of 077 kilometers.
Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake there may be aftershocks. According to the quake-recording agency, Intensity IV was felt in Palo, Leyte while Instrumental Intensity V was recorded in Catbalogan City in Samar.
