MISS UNIVERSE 2023 – Here are some looks from the national costume portion of the pageant during the preliminary competition.
Serving looks and inspirations during the national costume competition of the Miss Universe 2023 pageant are its 84 candidates.
A live streaming of the national competition was aired and all the candidates did not fail. This year, the pageant is taking place in the El Salvadoran capital of San Salvador and among the over 80 contestants are the first-ever married contestants and two transgender women, representing the Netherlands and Portugal.
Miss Nepal, Jane Garrett, is also the first curvy woman to join the pageant and she’s collected the loudest cheers during the swimwear and evening gown portion of the preliminary competition.
Recently, they graced the show’s venue to impress the viewers with their glittery, elegant, inspiring, and meaningful national costumes.
Some of the stunning national costumes that captured many are:
MISS NICARAGUA SHEYNNOS PALACIOS – Her costume was inspired by El Zanate or great-tailed grackle. Jorge Salazar designed this.
MISS TRINIDAD & TOBAGO FAITH GILLEZEAU – This was inspired by Scarlet moko jumbie or stilt walker.
MISS EL SALVADOR ISABELLA GARCIA-MANZO – The host country’s representative wore something that means “rebirth of El Salvador through a volcanic eruption”.
MISS PHILIPPINES MICHELLE MARQUEZ DEE – The designer is Michael Barassi and she highlighted in her design the representation of the Philippine archipelago and Michelle’s role as an Air Force reservist.
MISS UKRAINE ANGELINA USANOVA – In her costume, she is the Mother Protector defending children in the face of war.
MISS LAOS PHAIMANY LATHSABANTHAO – The inspiration for her costume is “Lue” lifestyle symbolizing patience.
Prior to the preliminary competition, the candidates also had their closed-door pre-pageant interview and the PH bet was “overall happy with how everything went”.
