EARTHQUAKE: 4.0 Magnitude Quake Hit Cebu

Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Cebu, November 17, 2023

EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.0 magnitude quake in Cebu today, Friday, November 17, 2023.

Following the 4.7 magnitude earthquake that hit Sarangani yesterday, another significant quake was recently recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in another province. According to the agency, the quake hit Cebu today. It had a magnitude of 4.0.

The earthquake today that struck Cebu, Friday, November 17, 2023, at 04:28 in the morning, was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Tudela. It followed the 1.5 magnitude quake that jolted San Francisco, Cebu, after a little more than an hour.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Cebu was located at 10.61°North, 124.59°East – 014 km South 76° East of Tudela. It had a depth of focus of 008 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. According to the quake-recording agency, Intensity II was recorded in Baybay City, Leyte. The following instrumental intensities were recorded:

  • Intensity I
    • City of Talisay, Cebu
  • Intensity II
    • Isabela, Abuyog, Baybay City, and Albuera, Leyte
  • Intensity III
    • Ormoc City, Leyte
