Here are the damages of the Davao Occidental earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8, a downgrade update from initial post of 7.2.
DAVAO OCCIDENTAL EARTHQUAKE – Netizens online share several clips and photos of the aftermath of Magnitude 6.8 jolting.
A magnitude 7.2 shook Davao Occidental on Friday afternoon, November 17 but it was later changed to magnitude 6.8. The strong earthquake was also felt in other parts of Mindanao. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) issued a bulletin stating that damage and aftershocks are expected but there is no tsunami threat.
The quake’s epicenter was off Davao Occidental. There were also reported intensities which are the following:
- Intensity VIII – Glan, SARANGANI; General Santos City, SOUTH COTABATO
- Intensity V – Matanao, DAVAO DEL SUR; Maasim, Malapatan, SARANGANI; Lake Sebu, Tampakan, Polomolok, Banga, SOUTH COTABATO
- Intensity IV – Kidapawan City, COTABATO; Magsaysay, Davao City, DAVAO DEL SUR; Don Marcelino, Jose Abad Santos, DAVAO OCCIDENTAL; Kiamba, Maitum, SARANGANI; Norala, Tantangan, SOUTH COTABATO; President Quirino, Lebak, Isulan, Esperanza, Columbio, Kalamansig, SULTAN KUDARAT
Following the tremor, a power outage occurred in the entire Davao Occidental. Several establishments and infrastructure were damaged.
Currently, the local government units in the Davao Region monitor and assess the extent of the quake damage.

This clip was taken in SM Gensan and it can be seen in the video that people were freaking out because of fear when the shaking happened. Debris were also falling down.
The Old Buayan Bridge, the bridge connecting General Santos and Sarangani is currently closed because of the cracks caused by the strong shaking.
The strength of the tremor can be seen as this huge signage on top of a building with 17 floors swayed with the shaking. Employees were able to evacuate safely.

A counterweight of this crane was also recorded falling down from a height on this construction site in Matina, Davao City.
Meanwhile, in the latest bulletin from Phivolcs, the magnitude 7.2 in the initial advisory was downgraded to magnitude 6.8. This was announced an hour later.
