Leila de Lima’s Former Lover Ronnie Dayan Allowed to Post Bail
The Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 206 allowed Leila de Lima’s former lover/driver Ronnie Dayan to post bail.
On Monday (November 13, 2023), a local court decided to grant the 64-year-old De Lima to post bail after more than six years in detention. She was jailed in 2017 for allegedly receiving drug-related money to fund her 2016 senatorial campaign.
The female lawmaker gets emotional and cries tears of joy upon learning of the court’s decision. “It pains me to be jailed without doing anything wrong, And I don’t want this to happen to anyone else. But I don’t want to be sad or bitter today. This is a moment of triumph,” she said.
During a press conference, De Lima also addressed former President Rodrigo Duterte, asking God to forgive and bless him for allegedly fabricating charges against her.
Amidst the controversy, the former senator admitted her romantic relationship with her former driver Ronnie Dayan. He was accused of being the ‘bagman,’ responsible for delivering inmate tributes to the former senator.
Dayan confirmed the affair, revealing that he and De Lima started their relationship in 2007, just a few months after he began working at her law office. He clarified that De Lima was aware of his marital status during their involvement.
“Totoo pong nagkaroon kami ng relasyon ni ma’am at nagsimula po ito noon ding 2007. Mga two to three months pa lang ako sa law office niya, Alam din po ni ma’am na may asawa po ako ng mga panahong iyon. Kasal na po ako since 1991,” Dayan said.
Recently, Muntinlupa RTC Branch 206 decided to grant Dayan the chance to post bail after six years. The court also extended this privilege to others, setting the bail amount at P300,000.
