Leila de Lima Temporary Freedom, Robredo Says ‘Tagumpay ng bayan’

Ex-VP Robredo celebrates the release of Leila de Lima

Former Senator Leila de Lima was able to attain her temporary freedom as she was allowed to post bail, and for former Vice President Leni Robredo, this is a victory for the nation.

To recall, De Lima was arrested on Feb. 24, 2017, over drug charges filed by the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte. She was known as one of the fierce critics of Duterte’s campaign against illegal drugs.

Two of the three cases filed against her have been dismissed. The third one is for alleged illegal drug trading, which is still pending before the Muntinlupa RTC Branch 206, based on the report from One News PH.

After being detained for almost seven years, Leila de Lima was granted temporary freedom. The Muntinlupa trial court granted her bail petition on the last drug case filed against her.

The Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 206 Judge Gener Gito issued a two-page document ordering the release of De Lima after she paid the P300,000 bail set for the illegal drug trading charge filed against her.

For her allies, this is something that is worth to be celebrated. Former VP Leni Robredo wrote in her post on X (Twitter) that they have been waiting for the day to come that De Lima will be released.

With the former Senator’s temporary freedom, Robredo said that this proves that the accusations were false. “Ang lahat ng mga paninira at panggigipit na naranasan niya sa loob ng halos pitong taon ay bunga ng kaniyang pangangahas na tumindig para sa tama—para sa ating mga kababayan,” she said.

The Ex-VP also said that throughout the years that De Lima was fighting for her freedom, she has become an inspiration to them. Robredo also commended the former Senator’s faith and courage to continue to fight.

Masaya ako na sa wakas ay namayani ang hustisya at makakapiling na natin nang malaya si Sen Leila. Tagumpay ito hindi lang para sa kaniya, kundi para sa ating bayan,” former VP Robredo said.
