GUIMARAS ISLAND – The Province of Guimaras is made up of stunning beaches and historical sites and here are some details about this place.
The province of Guimaras is made up of five municipalities namely: Buenavista, Jordan, Nueva Valencia, San Lorenzo, and Sibunag. This is known as the “Mango Capital of the Philippines” as the mangoes produced here have an exceptional sweetness.
It was initially administered as part of the province of Iloilo but is now a separate province.
How to get here?
There are eight major wharves in the province and they are the following:
- Jordan Wharf, Rizal, Jordan
- MacArthur Wharf, Sto. Rosario, Buenavista
- Tacay Wharf, Tacay, Buenavista
- M. Chavez Wharf, M. Chavez, San Lorenzo
- Suclaran Wharf, San Lorenzo
- Tumanda-Cabano Wharf, Cabano, San Lorenzo
- Puyo Wharf, Poblacion, Nueva Valencia
- Cabalagnan Wharf, Cabalagnan, Nueva Valencia
The port in Brgy. Hoskyn, Jordan can now accommodate the RORO (Roll-On-Roll-Off) Sea Transport System which allows the transportation of products, passengers, vehicles, and buses.
If you are from Manila, the fastest way to take is via Iloilo. The flight would take 1 hour and 15 minutes and from the Iloilo International Airport, take a taxi to Parola Wharf. From this point, go to Jordan Wharf and the travel would take 15 minutes.
There is also a Feeder Airport in Barangay Mclain, Buenavista and a private airstrip in Inampologan island, Sibunag for tourism.
The main festival of the province is the Guimaras Manggahan Festival while the warmest season runs from March to mid of May. The festival is held every May which is also the best time to visit the province. However, expect crowded places.
