SK CHAIRMAN BENEFITS – Here is a list of the benefits that the chairman of the Sangguniang Kabataan are entitled to.
In the local level of the Philippine government, there is the Sangguniang Kabataan or more popularly called SK. It is composed of an SK chairperson and seven (7) SK members or also called SK Kagawad. They are the ones in the position to carry out programs for the youths.
The SK chairperson and members are determined through an election. In fact, today, millions of individuals who are between 18 to 30 years voted for the candidates they support for SK chairperson and members.
The honoraria for SK chairpersons depend on the city class where the barangay is located. It can range from P15,000 up to P23,000 per month. Aside from the honoraria, there are also SK chairman benefits.
The Sangguniang Kabataan chairperson has the role as ex officio member of the Sangguniang Barangay. Thus, they are also entitled to the barangay officials benefits for barangay kagawad or the Sangguniang Barangay (SB) member.
The SK chairman benefits in the Philippines includes the following:
- Christmas bonus in the form of cash gift. The rate is based on the amount approved under the law.
- Insurance Coverage under the Republic Act 6942
- Medical Care that provides free hospitalization in government hospitals
- Free tuition and matriculation fees in government schools including two (2) of the legitimate dependent children
- Conferment of Civil Service eligibility based on the number of years in the service
- Preference in appointment to any government position
Aside from the aforementioned SK chairman benefits, the chairperson of the Sangguniang Kabataan is also exempted from paying tuition and matriculation fees in public colleges and universities within their local government unit. The priviledge can also be availed in any state college or university that is within 50 kilometers from the SK chairperson’s home province.
SK officials are not mandated to participate in the National Service Training Program (NSTP). They also have PhilHealth coverage and they can apply for the reimbursement of their expenses during SK-related travels.
