Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Negros Occidental, October 20, 2023

EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.7 magnitude quake in Negros Occidental today, Friday, October 20, 2023.

Following the 4.6 magnitude earthquake in Davao Occidental a few days ago, another significant quake was recently recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in another province. According to the agency, the quake hit Negros Occidental today. It had a magnitude of 4.7.

The earthquake today that struck Negros Occidental, Friday, October 20, 2023, at 03:36 a.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit the city of Sipalay.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Negros Occidental was located at 09.67°North, 122.26°East – 022 km South 61° West of Sipalay City. It had a depth of focus of 028 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. According to the quake-recording agency, no intensity was recorded at the epicenter of the quake as well as the nearby areas. However, Phivolcs detected an instrumental intensity IV in Sipalay City.
