President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Conveys Condolences to Filipino Victims in Israel-Hamas Feud

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has expressed his condolences to the families of two Filipinos who were killed in Israel.

On Wednesday (October 11, 2023), the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed the deaths of two Filipinos as a result of a surprise attack by the militant group Hamas in southern Israel

The attack, which claimed the lives of several individuals received condemnation from the Philippine government.

Philippine Foreign Secretary Enrique Manalo expressed the nation’s deep condolences to the families of the victims and strongly condemned acts of terrorism and violence rooted in the Hamas actions against Israel.

DFA did not provide further details on the fatalities but vowed to support Filipino nationals in Israel and Palestine. 26 out of 32 missing Filipinos have been rescued and are now in safe areas.

Israeli Ambassador Ilan Fluss expressed his condolences to the victims’ families and expressed gratitude for the solidarity of Filipino overseas workers (OFWs) residing in Israel.

According to the agency, there are around 30,000 Filipinos in Israel and 137 others in the Gaza Strip. Some of our countrymen expressed their desire for repatriation due to the ongoing conflict.

Recently, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. conveyed his condolences to the families of the Filipino victims. He emphasized the unity of the nation in grieving for the loss and assured support to the families of the victims.

“Last night, I made two of the most difficult phone calls I’ve had to make as President. The nation is one in grieving with the families of the Filipino who were killed in the attacks on Israel. We will provide the utmost support to the families they were taken from. This tragedy will not deter our spirit. We will continue to stand for peace,” said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
