Vice Ganda-Ion Perez Icing Incident: Psychologist React

A psychologist has this explanation about Vice Ganda and Ion Perez’s icing incident

It’s Showtime hosts Vice Ganda and Ion Perez were defended by a psychologist against the criticism because of their viral icing incident.

Vice and Ion, as well as the Kapamilya noontime show, were criticized for allegedly displaying indecent acts live on air during the show’s segment Isip Bata. Because of this, the Movie and Television Classification Board (MTRCB) released a decision to suspend the show.

This garnered polarizing comments on social media. In a recent article in the Manila Bulletin, it was said that a psychologist saw no wrong with what Vice and Ion did.

Dr. Camille C. Garcia, CEO/Administrator of the Clinic of the Holy Spirit, Inc., who has been a resource person for TV shows, said, “A person’s individual experience or circumstance shapes his or her perception including that of s=xual activity or malice.”

With this premise, she said that if the person, especially a child, without this kind of experience could not think of any malice from Vice Ganda and Ion Perez’s act of licking the icing cake that way.

“Therefore, the children present during the subject show (who were seven years old and below) and even the children watching will not ordinarily perceive the subject conduct as s=xual or malicious,” the psychologist explained.

Garcia is the resident psychologist of the noontime show and she said that three clinical psychology interns conduct pre-briefing with the children before they participate in the program. This is done regularly.

Garcia’s team also monitors what is happening during the show and segments. Then, they would conduct a debriefing afterward. For that specific July 25 segment that went viral, Garcia said that they did the regular debriefing. The psychologist pointed out that the interns did not state that there should be a cause for concern.

Parents of the Isip Bata contestants during that time also showed support for the Kapamilya noontime show.
