Are you one of the members of the Social Security System? Do you know that you may be allowed to update your SSS contribution in the pursuit of bigger retirement benefits someday?
Millions of Filipinos are active members of the Social Security System. More popularly called SSS, it is a state-run social insurance agency to which the members submit a monthly contribution. In return, a member may qualify to the SSS loans, benefits, and other services offered by the state-run social insurance agency.
The rate of the contribution is determined through the monthly earning of a member. Meanwhile, there are member categories who can easily update or adjust their monthly contributions to the state-run social insurance agency.
There are members of the Social Security System (SSS) who can easily change their monthly contribution to the state-run social insurance agency based on the SSS Circular No. 2015-007. Here are the SSS members who can easily update their monthly contribution to the government agency:
Self-Employed Members
- For members below 55 years old, the government agency allows an unlimited number of updates.
- For members who are 55 years old and above, the SSS monthly contribution can be raised only once a year and by one salary bracket from the last posted contribution.
Voluntary Members
- For members below 55 years old, the Social Security System allows an unlimited number of updates.
- For members who are 55 years old and above, the SSS monthly contributions can be raised only once a year and by one salary bracket from the last posted payment
Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) Members
- For members below 55 years old, the SSS set an unlimited number of updates allowed.
- For members 55 years old and above, the SSS monthly contribution can be raised only once a year and by one salary bracket from the last posted payment
Non-Working Spouse
The Social Security System allows non-working spouses of SSS members to update their SSS monthly contribution at any age but the frequency depends on the changes of the monthly contribution of the working spouse.
With regards to the monthly contribution of voluntary, self-employed and OFW members who are 55 years old and below, the Social Security System (SSS) allows the reduction of the monthly contributions but it must not be lower than the MSC or the Monthly Salary Credit.
How to Update SSS Contribution via SSS Mobile app
- Log-in to your SSS Mobile App account with your User ID and password.
- Tap Generate PRN found at the Bottom of the App Dashboard.
- Click CREATE on the upper right corner of the app.
- Pick your Membership Type, Applicable Period You Want To Pay for, and your new SSS contribution amount.
- Click “Submit”.
- Review the Information that you have Entered and click “OK” to close the dialogue box.
- Copy the PRN on your Statement of Account (SOA) and use it to pay your new contribution amount.
