This is the response of Lala Sotto to the calls of people for her to step down.
People online are calling out Lala Sotto to step down as the MTRCB chairperson and this is her reaction to this.
Previously, the Department of Broadcast Communication of the University of the Philippines called for the resignation of Lala Sotto. She is currently the chairperson of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB).
In a previous article, the UP department expressed dismay at Sotto when she “evidently compromised her position and objectivity as a public official” following the suspension of It’s Showtime – a decision they released last August.
Recently, the agency has already come up with a decision following the motions of reconsideration filed. MTRCB denied the MRs of It’s Showtime and many people have reacted. Some of them expressed that it’s a disappointing decision but they are not surprised.
During the press conference held by MTRCB regarding the MRs of the Kapamilya noontime show, among those who participated along with the chairperson were NJel De Mesa (MTRCB Vice Chair), Dr. Luis Gatmaitan (Chairperson of NCCT National Council for Children’s Television), Board Member Maria Carmen Musngi, Atty. Paulino Cases, and Atty Cesar Pareja.
In the same affair, Sotto was asked about resignation calls online directed at her and according to her, she is unbothered.
She will accordingly not satisfy the whims of her detractors by stepping down as the MTRCB chair. According to her, she grew up with people who are in the industry, for this reason, bashing is not new to her.
The chairperson said, “I grew up in public scrutiny, I saw my parents always talked about, I would read about my family all the time in the paper. Bashing is not new to us, to me… I thank God I am unbothered.”]

Meanwhile, she believes that her being a Sotto and the daughter of Tito Sotto, one of the hosts of Showtime’s rival, should not be something to be taken against her. She added that this should actually be taken positively as she is someone who “grew up in, loves, and, understands the industry”.
