A civil wedding is held either at a local court or at the city hall or LGU hall in your city. Often times, only two (2) witnesses are allowed to be present with the bride and groom during the wedding ceremony.

If you and your spouse opt to get married at a local court or city hall, you need to prepare for the civil wedding requirements. Both the bride and the groom must prepare the documents stated below.

PSA Birth Certificate

Obtain copies of your birth certificates or Certificate of Live Birth from the Philippine Statistics Authority. You need to book for an appointment to get a PSA Birth Certificate which has its own requirements. You can either pick up the document from the PSA nearest to you or you can also have it delivered to the place where you often stay. If you want to have it delivered, there is an additional charge for the delivery fee.

Two (2) valid IDs of the couple

Both the bride and the groom must prepare at least one valid identification card or valid ID. The valid IDs will serve as proofs of identity of both parties. If either or both of you have no valid ID, it is best to secure your ID ahead as it may take some time. You may get a National ID.

CENOMAR

Aside from the Birth Certificate, you also need to request the Certificate of No Records of Marriage or CENOMAR from the Philippine Statistics Authority. Both of the couple must prepare their CENOMAR as part of the civil wedding requirements.

Marriage License Application Form

Also part of the civil wedding requirements are duly-accomplished Marriage License Application Forms. You can ask for the forms at the Local Civil Registrar in your municipality or city. Make sure to have four (4) copies — one for you and three for the registrant, the solemnizing office, and the Office of the Civil Registrat-General.

Community Tax Certificate

The Community Tax Certificate or CEDULA of the bride and the groom are also required in getting married. You can obtain it from your local Philippine Treasurer’s Office.

1×1 Photo

The couple who is about to be married must prepare their 1×1 photos.

Barangay Certificate

Obtain a Barangay Certificate from the barangays where you live as part of your proof of locality.

Certificate of Attendance in Pre-Marriage Counseling

In case the groom, bride, or both partners are 25 years old or below, a Certificate of Attendance in Pre-Marriage Counseling is required. The concerned party must go through a counselling on responsible parenthood, marriage, and family planning which often takes half of the day.
