This is what Lala Sotto said to the critical comments thrown at her and the regulatory body.
At the center of the controversy is MTRCB Chair Lala Sotto and this is her statement to those who disagree with It’s Showtime suspension.
Due to the big conflict of interest, Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) Chair Lala Sotto is under hot waters. The MTRCB chair was accused of being unfair for the way how It’s Showtime and EAT of TV5 has been treated.
Diorella “Lala” Sotto-Antonio is the daughter of former Senate President Tito Sotto, one of the main hosts of EAT, the rival of Showtime.
Regarding the 12-airing day suspension of It’s Showtime, Sotto denied that she is targeting the show because of her own father’s show. She denied the “pinag-iinitan ang Showtime” accusations but she believes that MTRCB has nothing to do with the violations the hosts have committed.
Lala actually inhibited from voting. And in a recent interview, regarding the critical comments and backlash the suspension decision has received, the MTRCB chair reiterated her point.
She was also made aware of the Department of Broadcast Communication of the University of the Philippines calling her out to resign. And this, for her, is biased because, as she has said before, they are not responsible for what they did.
“That is why we always encourage the hosts to please stay within the boundaries of the classification and rating system that we have. Para hindi naaapektuhan,” she expressed and added that the regulatory board is, as well, unhappy in giving penalties.
She encouraged the shows to follow the rules and regulations to avoid problems and penalties like suspension.
But they are the regulatory board and they have to do their job and as the chairman, she shared this simple logic she believes in based on her interview with PEP: “May violation, may nararapat na penalty. Kung may pananagutan, kailangang managot, di ba? Ganun lang kasimple.”
