Police Officer Sustains Injuries After Being Stabbed w/ Scissor by Alleged Thief

A male thief stabbed a police officer with scissors after he was apprehended on the rooftop of a residence in Barangay San Bartolome, Quezon City.

In the early hours of Monday (September 11, 2023), a police officer sustained injuries to his arm after being stabbed with scissors by an alleged intruder on the rooftop. The incident tested the courage and professionalism of the police authorities.

Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Station 4 Chief Police Lieutenant Colonel Jerry Castillo said that they received a distress call from a 50-year-old woman regarding a suspected break-in by an individual known only as “Jay” at her home.

The police authorities immediately responded after receiving the woman’s call. The informant reportedly spotted an individual on the roof with a bladed weapon.

Ang report na nakuha natin meron na isang lalaki na armed with knife or bladed weapon na andon sa bubong ng kanyang bahay at nagising siya nung marinig niya na may parang bumabaklas sa kanyang bubungan. So nung paglabas niya nakita niya may isang tao doon na may bladed weapon,” Castillo said.

The woman’s call for help prompted the swift response of law enforcement to the scene. The suspect had already damaged a certain part of the roof using a ten-inch pair of scissors.

The police officers tried to negotiate a peaceful surrender but the suspect suddenly attacked and stabbed Patrolman Mark Jayson Morralos using a pair of scissors. The incident compelled another officer to open fire, hitting the suspect in the shoulder.

Patrolman Morralos was fortunate to escape the attack without life-threatening injuries, but the situation.

As of this writing, the suspect will face charges related to attempted robbery, alarm and scandal, and direct assault, according to Castillo.
