Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Cagayan, September 12, 2023

EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.9 magnitude quake in Cagayan today, Tuesday, September 12, 2023.

Following the 4.6 magnitude earthquake in Davao Occidental yesterday, another significant quake was recently recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in another province. The quake hit a part of Calayan. According to the agency, it has a magnitude of 4.9.

The earthquake today that struck Cagayan, Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at 01:30 a.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Dalupiri Island.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Cagayan was located at 19.22°North, 121.11°East – 016 km North 39° West of Dalupiri Island. It had a depth of focus of 004 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. According to the quake-recording agency, no intensity was recorded at the epicenter of the quake as well as the nearby areas. Instrumental Intensities were logged:

  • Intensity I
    • Aparri, Cagayan
  • Intensity II
    • Laoag City, Ilocos Norte
