Lala Sotto “Inhibited From Voting” Suspension Of It’s Showtime

MTRCB says chair Lala Sotto refused to make a vote regarding the suspension.

The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) stated that its chairman Lala Sotto inhibited from voting on the suspension of “It’s Showtime”.

Diorella Maria “Lala” Sotto-Antonio was appointed as the chairperson of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB). Such created a conflict of interest regarding the events that are currently happening with the noontime shows.

MTRCB summoned the producers of It’s Showtime due to the alleged indecent acts of hosts Vice Ganda and Ion Perez

Several weeks after, a decision was made which was MTRCB to suspend Showtime based on the statement released. People online called out Lala expressing how unfair the situation was. His father’s show remained untouched despite the obvious violations and this is where the confusion and rally of some netizens are coming from.

And recently, in a statement, the MTRCB revealed that the chair actually did not place a vote on the suspension of the show.

In the statement, it reassured the public that they will “continue to uphold due process and fairness in the discharge of its regulatory mandate and quasi-judicial function, as provided by law”.

The quasi-judicial government body said that the respondents are accorded due process and that they can exercise their right to a fair trial. Last August 17, a special board meeting was held and the Board unanimously voted for the suspension of the program and the decision was made “with careful consideration of prior warnings and offenses associated with the show.

It added, “Chairperson Lala Sotto inhibited from voting, ensuring that members of the Board exercised their independent judgment in determining the appropriate course of action.”

The statement reiterated that the producers of the show have the right to file a motion for reconsideration and appeal to the Office Of The President should the decision of the regulatory Board become unfavorable.
