The wife of Mike Enriquez shared his final moments
Lizabeth Yumping, the wife of the late Kapuso broadcaster Mike Enriquez, shared the last message she said to him.
Mike’s death saddened the broadcast industry. Many of his colleagues expressed sadness for losing one of the pillars in the world of news and current affairs. Even those who are in the Kapamilya network shared their heartfelt message for Mike.
Mike’s funeral took place on September 4, Sunday. Despite the rain, his loved ones, friends, and fans attended his funeral and he was laid to rest at Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina City.
Following the funeral, an interview by seasoned journalist Jessica Soho with Mike Enriquez’s wife was released, based on the article in GMA Entertainment. Lizabeth admitted that it had not sunk in her yet.
“Kasi marami pang tao pero I’m sure all of these… tapos ako na lang mag-isa sa bahay. I don’t know, I really don’t know,” Mike’s wife said. She also shared that her husband really fought for his life.
It is somehow consoling on her part that Mike will no longer suffer anymore because of his illness. “He’s been through a lot. They had to do dialysis and dito nila pinapadaan,” she shared. Lizabeth added that Mike’s new kidney was working well, however, his health was deteriorating.
The late broadcaster had a kidney transplant operation back in December 2021. “Because nga ‘yun palang kidney transplant, they give you anti-rejection medicine. And that anti-rejection medicine lowers your immune system. So, kaya nahirapan ang mga doctors to arrest the infection because of that,” Mike’s wife explained.
Lizabeth also shared that her husband died during a dialysis session. Mike’s blood pressure dropped and his heartbeat stopped. His caregiver texted Lizabeth and she wondered why it was happening because she did not expect it.
They tried to revive Mike three times already and Lizabeth told the doctor that it was enough already. Lizabeth could not bear the sight anymore inside the ICU so she just went out and broke down.
She recalled cheering her husband that he could do it and that he should just continue to fight. However, after seeing the struggles that Mike had, Lizabeth said, “Sige, Mike. I’ll be fine. I’ll be fine. I know God will not forsake me. Kung pagod ka na, you rest na. And I love you.” After a few minutes, the doctor told her that Mike Enriquez had flatlined.
