Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in South Cotabato, August 26, 2023

EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 5.0 magnitude quake in South Cotabato today, August 26, 2023.

Following the yesterday, another significant quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in another province. The quake hit South Cotabato. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 5.0.

The earthquake today that struck South Cotabato, Saturday, August 26, 2023, at 03:13 a.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Surallah.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of South Cotabato was located at 06.30°North, 124.74°East – 009 km South 04° West of Surallah. It had a depth of focus of 009 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. According to the quake-recording agency, the following intensities and instrumental intensities were recorded in these areas:

    • Lake Sebu, SOUTH COTABATO
    • Malungon, SARANGANI
  • Intensity IV
    • Surallah, Banga, Tampakan, Tupi, T’Boli, and City of Koronadal, SOUTH COTABATO
    • Maasim, Alabel, Glan, and Malapatan, SARANGANI
    • General Santos City

    • Lebak and President Quirino, SULTAN KUDARAT
  • Intensity II
    • Isulan and Columbio, SULTAN KUDARAT
    • Tantangan and Norala, SOUTH COTABATO

    • Alabel, Malungon, Malapatan, and Maitum, SARANGANI
  • Intensity IV
    • Tupi, Banga, Polomolok, Surallah, and Santo Ñino, SOUTH COTABATO

  • Intensity V
    • Lake Sebu, SOUTH COTABATO
