PAGASA Says Tropical Storm Goring to Affect PH Weather Condition

PAGASA LATEST UPDATE – The state weather bureau reported that Tropical Storm Goring slightly intensified, signal no. 1 raised in four areas.

On Friday (August 25, 2023), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. Tropical Storm Goring will affect the country’s weather condition.

Tropical Storm Goring was last located 220 kilometers east-southeast of Basco, Batanes, with maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 90 kph. The weather disturbance was moving southwestward, with strong to gale-force winds extending outward up to 160 kilometers from the center.

Goring enhances the habagat, which will bring occasional rains over the western portions of Central Luzon and Southern Luzon beginning on Friday, and over the western portion of the Visayas.

The tropical storm’s trough will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Ilocos Region.

Habagat will bring similar weather conditions over Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, Zambales, and Bataan.

The southwest monsoon and localized thunderstorms will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.

The weather agency has warned the public for possible flash floods and landslides due to moderate to heavy rainfall.

Under these conditions, flooding and rain-induced landslides are possible especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps and in localities that experienced considerable amounts of rainfall for the past several days,” PAGASA said.
