It is often part of the requirements in applying for a loan, availing a benefit offer, booking a flight, getting a passport, etc. Public and private entities usually require a valid ID.

An ID is considered valid when it is within its validity period. In the Philippines, there are two (2) categories of IDs — primary and secondary. Most transactions require the presentation of a primary ID.

One of the primary IDs in the country is the Unified Multi-Purpose Identification card or more popularly called the UMID ID. It is the unified identification card for the Social Security System (SSS), Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), Pag-IBIG Fund, and PhilHealth members.

The UMID is issued by the Social Security System. It is beneficial in claiming SSS benefits or SSS loans as well as the offers of GSIS, PhilHealth, and the Pag-IBIG Fund. The UMID ID requirements for eligibility requires the applicant to have an active SSS account and to have posted at least one (1) monthly contribution to his/her account.

With regards to the UMID ID requirements for application (documentary), the applicant must present a valid ID or two (2) secondary IDs in the absence of a primary ID. Here are the IDs that are considered primary in the Philippines:
