Enrollment for School Year 2023-2024 Starts, DepEd Says

ENROLLMENT – The Department of Education (DepEd) has commenced the enrollment for the school year 2023-2024.

Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte signed DepEd Order 22, announcing that the enrollment for the upcoming school year will take place from August 7 to 26, 2023.

On Monday (August 7, 2023), the Education Department started the enrollment three weeks before the official class opening. Last year, 28.4 million students enrolled in 44,931 public schools and 12,162 private schools.

DepEd spokesperson Undersecretary Michael Poa stated that around 28.7 million to 28.8 million students are expected to enroll this year.

According to DepEd, classes will open on August 29, 2023, in all public schools, while private schools can choose any day before the last day of August.

On the other hand, Brigada Eskwela 2023 will start on August 14 and continue until August 19, 2023. Its aim is to help schools prepare for the class opening.

“It is just making our schools functional, clean, and orderly inside and outside the classrooms and within the school sites. Ibig sabihin, tanggalin niyo ‘yung lahat ng mga clutter, lahat ng mga dumi na nakatambak sa loob ng mga classrooms at sa loob ng eskwelahan,” Duterte said.

The vice president clarified that Brigada Eskwela is voluntary only, and those who are willing can participate in the program.
