School Opening Scheduled on August 29, 2023 for Public Schools, DepEd Says
The Department of Education (DepEd) recently announced that classes in public schools will resume on August 29 for the school year 2023-2023.
As the weeks pass, the start of the school year approaches, and students prepare to return to their respective institutions.
This judgment applies to students in public schools from kindergarten to high school across the country. In an advisory issued on August 2, DepEd also allowed private schools to start courses on any day as long as it takes place on the first Monday of June.
The agency has not yet given information on the estimated number of students for the forthcoming school year. However, according to previous year’s figures, 24.8 million students were enrolled in 44,931 public schools and 12,162 private schools across the country.
The annual “Brigada Eskwela” is set to take place from August 14 to 19. During this time, schools, parents, teachers, and volunteers work together to clean, repair, and beautify the school grounds in preparation for the student’s return.
In context with this, DepEd reiterates its absolute prohibition on soliciting or collecting money from parents, legal guardians, volunteers, partners, and stakeholders during Brigada Eskwela.

The agency advises that school directors, instructors, and other school workers must not request any type of donation, including Brigada Eskwela fees.
During Brigada Eskwela, the spirit of volunteering and bayanihan (community cooperation) should prevail, encouraging cooperation and collaboration among education stakeholders rather than rivalry.
“Two weeks before opening of classes, the other learners only need to confirm their enrollment in the same school for the school to properly plan class programs/sectioning,” said Assistant Education Secretary Francis Bringas.
