Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Apayao, August 1, 2023
EARTHQUAKE TODAY – The Phivolcs recorded a 5.5 magnitude quake in Apayao today, August 1, 2023.
Following the 4.4 magnitude earthquake in Surigao del Norte last day, another significant quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake hit a part of Apayao, specifically Kabugao. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 5.5.
The earthquake that struck Apayao today, Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at 04:03 p.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Kabugao.
According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Apayao was located at 18.00°North, 121.06°East – 013 km South 78° West of Kabugao. It had a depth of focus of 030 kilometers.
Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. According to the quake-recording agency, Intensity II was felt in Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte. The following instrumental intensities were recorded:
- Intensity I
- Batac, Ilocos Norte
- Sinait, Ilocos Sur
- Intensity II
- Laoag City and Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte
- Candon, Ilocos Sur
- Intensity III
- Aparri, Cagayan
