Pops Fernandez talked about the songs of this generation
Concert Queen Pops Fernandez gets honest about her opinion when it comes to singing Gen Z songs.
Pops is one of the seasoned female singers in the Philippine entertainment industry who has already done countless shows in the country and abroad. Apart from being a singer, she also did a bunch of acting projects.
Pops has a new show on TV5, based on the article in PEP. She is the host of For The Love which will start airing on July 29, 2023, Saturday 3:20 p.m.
The Concert Queen shared that she loves the concept of this show because she will sing first the song that will be portrayed.
However, Pops Fernandez admitted that she is not used to singing the songs of this generation. Although she can sing new songs, she really has to study the materials.
“Pag napag-aralan naman, of course kaya. Pero iba na ngayon ang kanilang melody. Iba na ngayon ang kanilang phrasing. Dati kasi sa amin, kunwari one sentence dapat tatapusin mo yung sentence. Ngayon, kalahati ng sentence pupunta na dun sa kabila, parang may putol na,” the Concert Queen said.
She has to get used to new songs but she said these were wonderful songs. Then, Pops shared what she noticed in songs of this generation. She said that songs nowadays are more expressive and can describe the situation a person is in.
Pops also said that this is not how the songs in the past were written. “Dati kasi, in general, di ba? ‘Tumingin ako sa mata mo,’ in general yun. Ngayon kasi nakukuwento na yun,” she said.
When it comes to melody, the seasoned singer also said that there is a slight difference. Being a singer for many years already, she somehow trained that a certain note will follow by a certain note but this is not the case when it comes to Gen Z songs.
