PAGASA Says Tropical Depression Egay to Bring Rains Over Parts of PH

PAGASA LATEST UPDATE – The state weather bureau reported Tropical Depression Egay enhances the southwest monsoon.

On Saturday (July 22, 2023), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. Tropical Depression Egay and habagat will affect the country’s weather condition.

PAGASA reported that Egay was last spotted at 815 km east of Southeastern Luzon. It has maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 70 kph.

The tropical cyclone is moving west northwestward at 10 kph. The weather disturbance’s strong winds are extending outwards up to 290 km. Currently, no tropical cyclone wind signals were raised in any parts of the country.

Egay will also enhance the southwest monsoon, which will brings rains over some parts of the country during the weekend.

“Forecast rainfall are generally higher in elevated or mountainous areas. Under these conditions, flooding and rain-induced landslides are possible, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazard as identified in hazard maps and in localities that experienced considerable amounts of rainfall for the past several days,” PAGASA said.

Meanwhile, the coastal water condition over seaboards of eastern seaboards of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao will be moderate to rough, according to the weather bureau.

The weather agency said Egay may develop into a tropical storm today and might reach super typhoon category upon reaching the Philippine Sea east of Extreme Northern Luzon.

PAGASA also advised the residents in the affected areas to take precautionary measures for possible flash floods and landslides during severe thunderstorms.
