When it comes to the SSS benefits, one of it is the SSS Sickness Benefit which was designed to help sick members of the state institution who got sick or injured and were not able to report to work. A member will get the SSS Sickness Benefit allowance for the number of days that he or she is absent from work.

According to the Social Security System, the SSS Sickness Benefit allowance “is equivalent to ninety percent (90%) of the member’s average daily salary credit.

Who are qualified to avail the benefit offer? The member must meet the following qualifications:

  • sick or injured and is unable to report to work
  • confined at a hospital or at home for at least four (4) days
  • paid at least three (3) months of contributions within the 12-month period immediately before the semester of sickness or injury
  • used up all company sick leaves with pay for the current year
  • duly notified his or her employer

According to the SSS, the maximum claim of a member is 120 days in one (1) calendar year. Any unused part of the 120-day limit will not be carried to the next year. The repayment of the allowance extended shall take place not more than 240 days.

Aside from the SSS Sickness Benefit, also among the benefits extended by the Social Security System are the SSS Retirement Benefits such as the SSS Monthly Pension and SSS Lump Sum.
